HIS INAUSPICIOUS START IN SALES
Dedric got his start in sales selling kitchen knives. But even before that, Dedric's first sales stint was selling candy on his school bus as a 1st grader! After his sophomore year in college with no other job prospects he took a job selling Cutco Cutlery. Dedric did not have a fast start to his sales career. He struggled early on because he lacked confidence in himself and the product. Because of this he understands that sales can be tough and is not for everyone. It takes a certain type of individual to excel at sales. He also learned that sales skills can be taught, learned, and eventually after much practice, MASTERED!
On a fateful sales presentation one month into his sales career, right before he was about to quit Dedric had his breakthrough sale. The customer asked Dedric the price of a Carving set, Dedric informed him the set was $120, the customer said, "You know what...I'll take 10!". In that one presentation, the customer purchased over $1,200 in Cutco products from him. His hand trembled as he wrote the order form. Dedric almost asked him, "Are you sure you want to do that?" He walked out of that presentation floating on air with what he describes as "the best natural high ever". He now possessed something very important for a sales person: BELIEF!!! Overcoming his fears selling Cutco Dedric not only mastered the art of selling but he learned Skills For Life.
NETWORKING HIS WAY INTO PHARMACEUTICAL SALES
Fast forward to the beginning of his senior year in college; Dedric had decided to pursue a career in sales. He wanted to go into either Sales and Trading on Wall Street or Pharmaceutical Sales on Main Street. The problem was, he had no experience in either field. He faced a problem many college students face: businesses want people with experience in a particular field, but how do you gain experience if no one will hire you to gain your initial experience?
As fate would have it, he was fortunate enough to meet a gentleman who would become his mentor, who just so happened to work for a Top 10 Pharmaceutical company! This gentleman mentored him on what pharmaceutical reps do, how to ace the interview process and get hired.
Dedric started his career in pharmaceutical sales in 2004 and worked for a pharmaceutical sales representative for 6 years. He was a consistent top performer receiving several promotions during his time as a pharmaceutical rep. Some of his accomplishments include:
-Being named as Quarterback of 8 member cross divisonal sales team during his 3rd year with the company.
-Increased Zelnorm market share by 31% from 2005 to 2006.
-Managed territory that increased sales revenue by over $1.6 million in new business from 2008 to 2010.
After 6 years Dedric felt he had reached his ceiling as a pharmaceutical sales rep and wanted a new challenge. He looked at many different companies in several industries. After much careful consideration, he chose to join Hubspot, the #1 Place to Work in Boston according to Boston Business Journal. He started with Hubspot in September 2010.

Where less than 50% who start high school graduate in four years.
Young Men's Success Series is a life management program designed to give young men the necessary skills and perspective to build a successful life. Our mission is to propel young men of color (13 - 18) into their unique destinies. Focusing on social, academic and leadership development, the management team is resolved to provide this niche market with "good information - to make better decisions".
Dedric also serves on the Board of Directors of Bird Street Community Center as Chair of the Nominating Committee. Bird Street is a non-profit organization that provides high quality, affordable child care and recreational, educational and developmental activities for youth and their families in North Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods of Boston.
